Kriegsdenkmünze 1864 für Kombattanten

Added by: John Harman
Description: This medal, made of the bronze of captured Danish guns, was founded 10 November 1864 by King Wilhelm I of Prussia in conjunction with Kaiser Franz Joseph of Austria for combatants in the 1864 war against Denmark. It was minted in the Royal Mint in Berlin, and reads “AUS EROBERTEM GESCHUETZ” on the rim. Non-official pieces have neither the distinctive ribbed ring nor the edge inscription. The Prussian version had the cipher “W” to the left of “FJ”; this is reversed on the Austrian version.
