005.0: Order of Sidonia

Added by: Ed_Haynes
Description: (Sidonien Orden) Instituted on 31 December 1870, this order was awarded to female members of the Saxon nobility in a single grade. However, royal ladies wore the insignia on a sash rather than on a bow. The order was named for Sidonie von Böhmen (1449–1510), the wife of Duke Albrecht the Brave of Saxony , who came from Bohemia and was known for her special virtue and piety. Originally it was awarded to noble ladies who devoted themselves to the care of wounded soldiers during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. Image courtesy of Morton & Eden.
