0295.0: Jubilee Medal 1897

Added by: Ed_Haynes
Description: In 1897, a medal was instituted to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. It was awarded to members of the Royal Family and the court, guests and dignitaries present at the celebrations of Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee and to selected soldiers and sailors who formed the jubilee parade in London. Awards were made as gold, silver, or bronze medals based on the recipient's rank/social standing; and those who had received the Jubilee Medal 1887 were given a clasp to add to that medal instead. This specimen is attributed to Winifred, Lady Hardinge of Penshurst, C.I., K.i.H. (1868-1914), wife of Charles Hardinge, Baron Hardinge of Penshurst, Viceroy of India 1910-16.
