0306.0: Delhi Durbar Medal 1903

Description: On 1 January 1803 a massive parade was held in Delhi, India, at which King Edward VII was proclaimed Emperor of India. It was the culmination of a full 2 weeks of celebration organised by the Viceroy, Lord Curzon. The King was represented by his brother HRH The Duke of Connaught. A medal was struck to mark the event, being awarded in gold to the rulers of the Indian princely states and in silver to lesser dignitaries, government officials, and members of the armed services actually involved in the celebrations.
