Instituted on 12 December 1950, the first award created by the United Nations, this medal was awarded to the multi-national forces who participated in the Korea War 1950-1953. Originally called the United Nations Service Medal, the name was changed on 22 November 1961 to the United Nations Service Medal Korea. Unlike subsequent UN awards, it was available in some 11 languages. In most countries, it was awarded automatically ti anyone receiving that nation's own 'Korea Medal'. Image courtesy of eMedals.
