0074.1: Defence of Gibraltar 1779-1983, Eliott's Medal

Added by: megan
Description: Eliott's Medal for the Defence of Gibralar was awarded to Hanoverian troops. The obverse depicts the naval attack on the Rock of Gibraltar on 13 September 1782, and the reverse bears the word BRUDERSCHAFT above the names REDEN, LAMOTTE, SYDOW and ELIOTT within a wreath. The other names apart from General Eliott's refer to Hanoverian commanders. It is silver, 49mm in diameter and the obverse was designed by Lewis Pingo. There was no official ribbon, I've seen specimens on yellow ribbons as well as the blue one here. Image courtesy of DNW.
