Description: The Victoria Cross is a bronze cross pattée with a lion statant guardant on a crown over a scroll reading FOR VALOUR on the obverse. On the reverse there is a circular panel on which the date of the deed for which the cross is awarded is engraved. The recipient's details are engraved on the reverse of the suspension bar. Between 1856 and 1918 Army awards had a crimson ribbon, since 1918 all awards have been on a crimson ribbon. Image courtesy DNW.
