This medal: the Golden Jubilee Flag Medal for the Royal Prussian Guard Grenadier Regiment No.2 (Goldene Jubiläums Fahnenmedaille für das Koniglich Preußische Gardegrenadiere Regiment Nummer 2) was issued to Commemorate the 50th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph’s appointment as Inhaber (Proprietor) of the Royal Prussian Emperor Franz Grenadier Guard Regiment Number 2

Obverse: On a plain field is the bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I facing to the viewers right and wearing the uniform of a Prussian Guards officer. Around his neck can be seen the badge of the order of the Golden Fleece. He is also wearing the commander cross of the Order of the Red Eagle, the Order of the Black Eagle with grand cordon and star and the collar of the Royal Hohenzollern House Order. Around the upper half of the medal is inscribed FRANZ JOSEPH I KAIS.V.OESTERR.KG.V, BOEH. ETC. U. AP. KG.V. UNG. Translation: Franz Joseph I Emperor of Austria, King of Bohemia etc. Apostolic King of Hungary.

Reverse:  On a plain background is a wreath composed of a laurel bough on the viewers left and one of oak on the right tied at the bottom with a ribbon. Inside the wreath is an inscription in eight lines: DEM/ KGL. PREUSSISCHEN/ KAISER FRANZ /GARDE-GRENADIER/ REGIMENT Nr.2/ von/ SEINEM CHEF/1849-1899. Translation: The Royal Prussian Emperor Franz Guard-Grenadier Regiment No.2 from its commander 1849-1899.

 Ribbon: This medal was suspended from the regiment’s flag pole by means of a 118 mm wide ribbon with a black center stripe, 29 mm wide golden yellow side stripes and 6 mm wide black and yellow stripes near the margins.
