KeymasterRDave,
Although it may not seem like it to many, we are in the midst of creating searchable pdfs of JOMSA. To be honest, we want to have the best scans possible. While there are quicker ways of doing so, we are working to do it right.
Perhaps we can use your efforts as a "stop-gap" so that people can have something until we get a better solution.
Best wishes,
John

KeymasterPanarion,
I received your email on Sept 22 about your missing JOMSA and replied to you on Sept 23. Perhaps my email went to your spam filter.
At the time I asked that you send me your mailing address as I had no way of connecting your email address to a name and address. I did forward your email address to the Membership secretary at that time. If you will PM or email me your mailing address, I will send it off again to the Membership Secretary so this can get resolved.

KeymasterThanks for that Jeff.
The convention was a lot of work but well worth it. I am glad to have done it. I would encourage anyone who wants to host a convention, or wants one in their home, to give it a shot.
The convention seemed to be a success. That being said, the more members that attend, the better each one will be. Next year, the convention will be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the dates will be from August, 8-11. The Hotel for next year will be the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 6401 S. 13th Street. Mark your calendar now!

KeymasterWelcome!

KeymasterFrank,
He did, at least when he first moved there. He hasn’t been on the website since April. I have tried to email him, call him and write him letters. He has not responded to any of my efforts. He was supposed to be the co-chair for the upcoming OMSA convention.
Best wishes,
John

KeymasterI should also mention that on the main page of the website (http://www.omsa.org) a series of medals images scroll through the page. One of those is a Zulu war medal. I know that it is named "1098 Pte. G. Smith 90th Foot" (I own that medal).

KeymasterOdd, clearly unofficial.
BTW, nice article in the latest JOMSA. Not relevant to this topic but I look forward to reading it.
Best wishes,
John

KeymasterCan you post a photo? The medals were issued without clasp to individuals. Also a photo of the naming would be helpful to determine if it is named correctly.
Best wishes,
John

KeymasterJust a brief announcement. This year OMSA will have an auction at our Convention. All proceeds will benefit the OMSA general fund. There will be no buyers premium but you must be present to bid and win at this auction. For more information see the page on the website: https://www.omsa.org/content/omsa-convention-auction

KeymasterThe link is only available to paid OMSA members. Any person can join the OMSA forum. If you are a paid OMSA member and cannot access these pages it is because you are not known to be an OMSA members. Please let us know, and please include your OMSA membership number; we will update your membership.

KeymasterThere was a Sgt. John Henry Helms, USMC who was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1901 for saving a shipmate from drowning. He served on the USS Chicago and the ship was anchored at Montevideo, Uruguay at the time of the incident (January 10, 1901).
The award was somewhat controversial at the time (according to Wikepedia – if you believe everything there). He is also listed at the USMC website with no known photo.Born on March 16, 1874 and died on February 17, 1919. He enlisted in 1897 and served until his death. The medals seem possible. Although the Russian one seems least likely. I have yet to find his final rank.

KeymasterI can’t answer the question here but there will be a seminar talk on the Presidential Medal of Freedom at this year’s convention.
The speaker will be Larry Watson. At the 2007 Convention in Houston, Larry’s exhibit on Joe Dimaggio’s Presidential Medal of Freedom won the Best of Show. It should be a good talk. He is also a member of the forum, username: Larry
