ParticipantWell done indeed. And a nice period ribbon.
Most lovely.

ParticipantOhhhh . . .this one has had a hard life, for sure. Let me chew on it.
There is some "flexibility" (
) in the order of wearing.ed_haynes
ParticipantLast four:
— Morocco: Nishan Hafidien / Order of Hafiz – commander
— Morocco: Wissam Alaouit Cherifien / Order of the Sharifian Alawaid Dynasty – officer
— Laos: ??? / Order of the Million Elephants and White Parasol – member
— Spain: Medalla de la Paz de Marruecos / Peace of Morocco Medal (missing ribbon device)ed_haynes
ParticipantOff topic and out of curiosity: who serves in these ex-colonial units, now that the colonies are no more? Frenchmen?
ed_haynes
ParticipantPerhaps. Let me dig out Wehrlich and see.
Some of these (the Nazi Blood Order for example) may be called "orders" but aren’t.
ed_haynes
ParticipantGood example!

ParticipantActually, I can’t think of any simple circular orders. Are there any?

ParticipantWhile it could, of course, be Russian (with the St. George’s ribbon coming first), it does look very modern, even if it were a "White" invention from the 1930s.
ed_haynes
ParticipantYes.
ed_haynes
ParticipantSorry. Well, no I’m not, this gets interesting!
To lighten the search, a couple of quotes from Wikipedia:
(On the Russians) "Most Russians don’t care whether they are ruled by fascists or communists or even Martians as long as they can buy six kinds of sausage in the store and lots of cheap vodka."
(On the Soviet-Afghan War) "We began the war with lofty aims but ended up with a war against the people."

ParticipantDumb (really dumb) question: What is his neck badge?
ed_haynes
ParticipantHe died in a helicopter crash.
Were the control cables ever closely examined?

ParticipantA nice post. Many thanks.
The truly bizarre scene of these foreign (ex-allied, ex-enemy) troops marching in Red Square should not be lost. Even in today’s Russia. WOW. WOW indeed! (Did anyone record the THUD of Stalin turning over in his wall?)
Interesting that the US chose to wear these medals (a classy play, though I’d guess they’ll never be allowed to do so again ) while the Brits rejected them (SLAP). Who else was there? The French, as I recall from the parade broadcast? What was their approach to the medals?
ed_haynes
ParticipantAhhh, yes.
“. . . given his or her life while in the line of duty to protect and preserve the rights and freedoms of the people of New Hampshire.”
For death during a profligate invasion and potential oppression by . . . the terrorists of Vermont?
