A little far afield for me John but I sure hope you let me/us know how it goes. Oh yeah, and show us what goodies you found!
Damn Doc, talk about being put through the wringer!! Glad you’re back and look forward to hearing from you.
Alright, thank you Jeff. It’s appreciated.
No need to apologise for being ill.
megan hit it the nail on the head there Doc. It’s just good to hear from you.
I’m sorry to hear that.
I was just contacted by Doc on Facebook. He’s still alive… He’ll post here soon.
There is also that truck drivers award with just the steering wheel in a wreath.
Right you are!
I think I can answer some if not all of your questions.
1,Yes, but if awarded the swords only the one with swords could be worn.
3, The Knights Cross to the KvK in Gold came along pretty late in the war, sometime in 1944 I believe, they were made with and without swords but, only the Knights Cross without swords were awarded, and that may be on paper only, I’m not sure on that part.
Very nice indeed!
Thank You! I’m just amazed at the condition the medal came in. Except for a small blemish on the reverse at the 2 o’clock position, it shines like a proof coin.
Also on the reverse you can see a small A at the 6 o’clock position for the Berlin mint.
Beauties! Although I have to admit to being partial to the Iron Crown awards.
They have white powdery corrosion – any way of safely cleaning that off?
Sounds like ‘zinc pest’, and while I never tried this it is a very popular way of treating it.
Coat medal in petroleum jelly, (vaseline)
let sit for 24hrs
wash off with warm water dish detergent and a soft brush
No problem here.
Sorry to hear about your wife, may she have a speedy recovery.
That’s a nice looking medal and ribbon. Thanks for sharing!
