MemberYou’re right Christophe ! The official clasp is the oriental one.
felix
MemberThis clasp is official and is for the volunteers (November 9 1911). You can sometimes find it on the WWI medal but a specific cross was created for the volunteers of this war. Different shapes exist. An unofficial medal for volunteers exists too. You can find this bar on other commemorative medals but unofficially as the combatant cross for volunteers exists.

MemberA very desirable colonial medal. The coin was made by the Paris Mint (1907-1913, "corn1ARGENT"), the mounting is private made, maybe Chobillon.
The clasp is a Paris Mint made but the marks are for a private made. The LoH is very nice too.

MemberThe SSBM medal is indeed common but nice. It’s a membership medal. Some red cross medals were made for the 1870-1871 war and WWI.
felix
MemberThe hallmark is certainly a wild boar head (silver).
felix
MemberA nice Second Empire Legion of honour, sad for the enamel chips but it’s not easy to find one undamaged.
Could you make a picture of the hallmark ? (on the knot between the 2 lower arms of the reverse)
felix
MemberThe Italy is the first one and the most common second Empire commemorative medal but not the first french commemorative medal.
The "Sainte Hélène" medal awarded to veterans of the revolutionnary and napoleonic wars was instituted in 1857. Before that, some campaign medals were made but not in large scale.

MemberTo be exact, this is the type 3.
Type 1 is 44x30mm
Type 2 is 28x23mm
Type 3 is the same with the words "croix rouge française"Not a medal but a membership insignia, the UFF, with other societies, was integrated to the french red cross in august 1940.
Yours is a Paris Mint made in copper nickel zinc alloy (maillechort)

MemberSorry, couldn’t find the info.
felix
MemberJust want to notice that this medal is not the first type as described in the site but the second type. The first type is circular, the third and current type is the same as the second but the letters are not hollowed.
felix
MemberThat’s the reward medal of the french red cross.
3 classes, bronze, silver, gold. Still awarded today
The letters between each arm of the cross are CRF (Croix Rouge Française).
It’s an assciative medal, not an official one.felix
MemberIs there some red wire on the right of the Verdun medal ? Certainly part of a larger ribbon bar.
felix
MemberExactly ! These ribbons are not supposed to be on a medal but as always it’s possible that a veteran choose to put it on his war cross but it’s impossible to be sure. Apparently no period photos are known.
Be aware that these ribbons are still produced…
felix
MemberThey were common during the XIXth century for the civilian suit.
You can find full size ribbon with combination of WWI awards, be aware that they were produced to be worn as ribbon bar only for the civilian suit and not attached to the medal as you can see them on Ebay…
felix
MemberHe says something like PTOH ! (Not sure for the Quebec version who is not the same).
