After spending years with a very outdated and pretty useless system of awarding medals, the Danish armed forces have made a lot of new medals.
As a result of the "Veterans policy" the Ministry of Defence have created a medal awarded for international deployment with the Armed Forces before 2009.

The medal is called "Forsvarets Medalje for International Tjeneste 1948-2009" (The Defence Medal for International Service 1948-2009).
The "Defence Medal" from 1991, was created as a way of awarding special deeds, but was in fact given to anyone who was deployed and got a NATO/UN medal.
Before 1991 a Danish medal for international deployment didn’t exist.
More than one deployment before 2009 does NOT give multiple medals nor a oak leaf device.
