ModeratorAt last! With the Golden Jubilee of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Medal 2011 and the Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah 2017 the Brunei section of the medals database is as complete as I can make it. There are gaps, certainly I’m missing images but there may also be medals I don’t know about, so if anyone can help I’d be very grateful.
So, where next? Oman or some early Spanish medals, perhaps? Or somewhere else entirely? Unless anyone has any particular requests, I’ll make my mind up next week!!!

ModeratorI decided, for no very good reason except I updated that part of my website recently, to work on Qatar next. There were only 3 pictures here in the database, so I think it needs some work!
I have added the Collar of Independence, Collar of Merit, and Order of Independence today.
Information is quite patchy, my sources for Qatar are: –
Haynes, E.S. (n.d.). Medals of the Arab World Volume 2. In preparation.
Stair Sainty, G. & Heydel-Mankoo, R. (Eds) (2006) World Orders of Knighthood and Merit Burke’s Peerage and Gentry.
Along with some Qatar laws relating to orders, decorations and medals – which mostly merely list names with little on terms of award and nothing about what they’re supposed to look like.

ModeratorMore from Qatar: Police Medal of Honour, Emblem of Honour, Medal of Appreciation, Loyal Service Medal, and the Emblem of Combat.
The Emblem of Honour is their ‘Purple Heart’ equivalent, a wound medal; and the Medal of Combat is precisely that, awarded to those who actually participate in combat. Qatar practises conscription with most young men required to serve a short period of 3-4 months, so there is a large pool of basically-trained men to call upon should the need arise.

ModeratorQatar again: the Police Decoration of Merit, Police Decoration of Leadership Competence, the Emblem of Innovation, the Police Decoration of Scientific Competence, the Emblem of Efficient Leadership, and the Emblem of Efficient Training.
Unfortunately all the Police ones were only established on 14 February 2017 and I haven’t managed to find any images or even descriptions of any of them!

ModeratorSorry – busy preparing a lecture for tomorrow so no additional medals this week. More soon.

ModeratorLecture delivered and the end of term, so a bit more time for medals!
Today I added to the Qatar section the Police Medal of Training Competency, the Police Medal of Loyalty, the Police Exemplary Service Medal, the Emblem of Perfection, the Public Security Medal, the Medal of Independence, and the Medal of Accession 1972.
Unfortunately the police medals have proven elusive to find, perhaps because they were only instituted in 2017 and so there’s not been much chance for them to escape into the wild. If anyone has any information or pictures they will be very welcome to share!

ModeratorToday I’ve completed Qatar… with a series of medals to award good performance – the Land Forces Medal, the Air Forces Medal, the Naval Forces Medal, the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, and the Police Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, then rounded things off with 3 medals for which the only information appears to be that they exist! These are the Gulf War II Medal, and Accession Medals for 1995 and 2013.
If anyone can fill gaps they will be very welcome!
Next week, what to do? Any thoughts?
