This is a very good book if you want detailed and reliable information, though the images are not beautiful. Though old, it is still quite valuable (though it may be hard to find).

Byrne, Daniel M. Identification of French Orders And Medals 1996 Published by the author spiral bound. 100 Pages, color ribbon chart, black & white illustrations.
A very handy guide to French awards includes Orders, Military Medals and Civilian Medals. Illustrates the award and gives a brief description of it’s history and criteria for award.
My only complaint is the photocopied nature of the illustrations but in fairness the book was designed to Identify the orders & medals only.
Normally available for a reasonable price on e-bay.July 14, 2011 at 2:04 pm #14238
