    Hi Megan,

Many thanks, from my very tardy reply!

I’m still looking for a New Zealand Cross specimen, preferably a late 1800s/early 1900s piece.

    Thanks again,

    Bill

    Hi Graeme,

I’ve seen the Dunbar Sloane NZC, and have written to them about it.

It’s a well-known cast copy of REPLICA 10, the original being made by the NZ mint in 1982. For some reason, a nefarious character has been cranking out copies of SPECIMEN 10. I’ve seen two so far, with one on eBay.

If you’re going to copy one, copy an original!

The one that I have shown in my initial request, is one made circa WWI. That’s a nice one.

Thanks again for the heads-up, though!

All the best, and wish me luck!

    Cheers,

    Bill in Canada

    Hello Bill

I hadn’t seen it prior to the auction. It’s terrible !!!

Auctioneer admitted that many people had contacted them…….it ended up as being described as a "replica of a replica" prior to bidding opening. But…………mail bidder, apparently not sighting medal, bid $1,000 !!!!!!!! I’ll be checking with Dunbar Sloanes to see if they’re going to "come clean", so to speak, with the remote bidder. Caveat Emptor rules……

    Quite nice case though……

    Caveat emptor, indeed!

I’ve bought cases from Geoff Oldham, but he’s running out of minty ones.

As for Dunbar Sloane, that was the story that I told them – a copy of a copy. I had a similar situation recently with an American auction house that presented a William Smith flint fowler as a Manton one. They also made a last-minute correction.

Always "know your stuff" before you bid. If unsure, then don’t bid.

The lure of a New Zealand Cross…………………….

    Cheers,

    Bill

    Hello Gents,

Patiently waiting………..hoping………for that elusive New Zealand Cross. Hell, I’d even settle for Replica 31, if she’s out there somewhere.

I found a nice old one in New Zealand, but not quite what I wanted.

    I’m still looking!
