    Hello Gents,

Available for purchase is the cased Albert medal miniature group of twelve to Halton Stirling Lecky of the Royal Navy. With this group is the miniature set of three to his father, Squire Thornton Stratford Lecky, Master of the Transport Ship "British Prince".

H.S. Lecky was awarded the Albert Medal in Bronze for saving the lives of Second Lieutenant Arnold Grey and Trooper Trethowen of Thorneycroft’s Mounted Infantry. This occurred when the latter two were clinging to an overturned supply boat in Kosi Bay, South Africa, on 25th August 1900. Lecky was a Sub Lieutenant of H.M.S. Widgeon when the small boat was noticed having capsized in heavy surf, and in shark-infested waters. Lecky was on shore directing the unloading of stores, and he stripped of his clothes to swim to the two men. He rescued the non-swimmer Lieutenant first and brought him to shore, then swam out to rescue the Trooper. London Gazette 28 June 1901.

Lecky was present in the operations to assist in the Messina Earthquake of 1908, and entered WWI to eventually creat the British Auxiliary Patrol Service of 3,000 vessels, to battle enemy submarines. For this he was awarded the Order of the Bath. His full military history cannot be told in this note. He ended the War as a Captain, and worked in the Admiralty.

His father, S.T.S. Lecky, served in the Egypt Campaign, and became a Commander with the Royal Naval Reserve. Both father and son authored books on the Royal Navy, and Seamanship in general.

H.S. Lecky’s medal case carries the inscription "H.S.L. FROM A.C." Agnes Close was his lady friend, and later his wife. Both father and son medals are in their respective Spink cases. Notice the intriguing way of adding medals to H.S.’s medal bar.

A goodly amount of research is included. These medals are ex. Jeffrey Hoare auction of 25 January 2015.

    I wish $1500 US dollars, please……and will be post-paid.

    Cheers,

    Bill Greig
