I am researching a pilot enlisted March 1940, flew fighters squadron 39, awarded dfc, silver star/oak leaf cluster, air medal, Purple Heart. Killed in combat New Guinea 1943. What other medals would he qualify for,e.g. Asiatic-Pacific campaign, others? Thanks for your help.
He would have been eligible for the American Defense Service Medal, probably the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, possibly the Philippine Liberation Medal, possibly the Philippine Victory Medal and the World War 2 Victory Medal. The two Philippine Medals and the Victory Medal would have been sent to his family after the war was over (in many cases but not all).
Thanks much. Parents received Silver Star w/ cluster, DFC, Purple Heart and Air Medal Jan 1944 then nothing later. Served in US Mar 1940 then to SW Pacific Dec 1941. Killed Mar 3 1943 in Battle if Bismarck Sea which may have limited some of those you mentioned. Wonder if he’d have been eligible for battle stars with the Asia-Pacific. Thx again.
