I always wanted a real knight cross of the war merit cross and have to say that it was extremely difficult to find not only a reasonable priced own, but also real piece from before 1945. Thank goodness that in today’s day and age a variety of good books are published on all medal topics. Dietrich Maerz just came out in time when this opportunity came up and helped me a lot to make the purchase decision. As you will see there is a flaw in the tooling which nicely reveals a fingerprint helping even the lesser experienced collector to determine the real from the fake. You find it on the reverse on the lower arm to the right.
