ParticipantThe center medal (WW2 India Serv) is in the wrong place. It should be after the victory medal (last at right on pic).

ModeratorMinor niggle, no ‘Victory Medal’ here…
Order ought to be:
1939-45 Star (dark blue, red, light blue)
Burma Star (dark blue, red central stripe, orange edge stripes)
Defence Medal (orange with green borders bearing narrow black stripes)
War Medal 1939-45 (dark blue, red edges, white centre stripe with narrow red stripe)
India Service Medal 1939-45 (light blue, dark blue edges and narrow double dark blue central stripe)December 21, 2011 at 7:18 pm #15398Frank Dutil
ParticipantI’ve always called the "1939-45 War Medal" the WW2 Victory medal… Dunno why… Megan’s correct though… No such animal.

ParticipantSorry to chime in (where I know I am NOT welcomed), but it was impossible to get both the Defence Medsal and the Indian Service Medal. That was the way it was intended. Most of the UK-based group fakers don’t know this. This is a bad "group".

ModeratorYou are always much more than welcome, Ed – it’s good to hear you again!
Good catch, too. From H. Taprell Dorling 1946 edition, on a piece of paper stuck in & headed ‘Addenda’ we have:-
"INDIA SERVICE MEDAL, 1939-45: This medal will be awarded for three years’ non-operational service with the Indian Forces between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945. It will not be awarded to anyone who qualifies for the Defence Medal but will be granted in addition to the War Medal and the Campaign Stars."
The source of this information is cited as a statement to the House of Commons by the Prime Minister on 6 June 1946.

ParticipantGood catch indeed Ed! I wasn’t aware of this little difference between the Indian and the other Commonwealth countries’ WW2 service medals.
