I’ve been spending Sunday afternoons happily pottering around the Image Database for over a month now. I have started with the United Kingdom section, in which I have set up an Orders sub-section. So far I have added the Order of the Garter, the Order of the Thistle, the Order of St Patrick, the Order of the Bath, the Royal Guelphic Order, the Order of St Michael and St George and the Order of the Star of India – using a mix of images already in our database, images from several auction houses (Dix Noonan Wen, eMedals, Liverpool Medals, Morton & Eden and Spinks) who have been kind enough to say that we can use their pictures and some from my own collection.

But there still are gaps! If you can fill them from your own collection, and are willing to share, please do!

And of course if you want to contribute images for any other country, I’ll be happy to add them for you. You may send them direct (megan ‘at’ medals.org.uk) or via the contact form selecting the Images DB Usage option.

Looking really good, Megan! Keep up the good work.

Let’s all support Megan and get her some great images to make further progress on updates of the image database.

The new-style database continues to grow, I’ve now reached the Order of the British Empire. I have also started inserting a ‘header’ image for each order, that provides general information about that order – dates, terms of award, etc. – to leave the space in the insignia images for descriptions and notes specific to that grade.

But… in the old days, there was a steady stream of additions to the database, 2 or 3 items most days. Yet nothing’s come in… just a single enquiry from one member asking if we wanted some images of Kentucky Colonel awards (yes, of course we do!). Please don’t feel put off by having to send images in rather than put them up yourselves – just send ’em in, preferably front & back images in good quality plus notes about what the item is and what it was awarded for.
