The German Eagle Order just like any other order went through a series of design changes during its existents. Made by Deschler in Munich and Godet in Berlin, it seems that the first type was made by Deschler alone. The missing fan suspension and the more predominant German eagles give the 1st type of the order away. From 1937 to 1939 this type was awarded without swords only.

The medal itself exists in that typical 1st type design. The eagles clearly match the ones from the order decorations and the maltese cross has a specific rough stipple effect rather then that smoother design of its later cousins.

Does anybody has more information on that topic?
