At various times readers here have raised the issue of whether military working dogs and mascots receive military medals and the answer was generally a resounding "no" (at least for American military animals). I was just reading an article in the newspaper that briefly mentions the "Canine Members of the Armed Forces Act" which this article indicates includes a provision to award canines military commendations. Good grief, maybe something to follow?
I just hope those retired canines don’t start bragging (barking) with other dogs at the park about what gallantry decorations they allegedly received. Maybe the Supreme Court Justices can bring this up during oral arguments on the constitutionality of the Stolen Valor Act?
