Hi, I’m looking for some help on where to go for WWI medal identification. I cannot find a sample of the medal/ribbon combo I have. My great-grandfather (1879-1961) (pictured) was buried with this medal, according to a family member. She only sent me a copy of a picture of it at the time, so I apologize for the quality. I was told he received it from the King of Austria for “driving off soldiers from another country that had invaded.” Thanks in advance!

Looks like A Hungarian gold ducat mounted in a fancy flower shape frame. I doubt that it is any kind of military decoration. The story could be true. Rulers often handed out unique thank you gifts for many reasons.

Good idea, I never thought of that. I still haven’t found any kind of medal that looks like what I have, so your theory might be right. Thanks for responding!
