A little less than 1,750 of these rather ornate medals were issued to men from the transport service and from 9 ships for what might have been the most bloodless campaign for which a medal was awarded. Apart from the 100 men of the “Rocket Brigade” who participated in the epic march to Magdala, the recipients of this medal saw virtually no action. A blog with more details is available here.
