The medal for the war wounded (Médaille des blessés de guerre) that has existed albeit unofficially for a century has finally been decreed as official by the French government. Provisional instruction N° 1403 of 14 April 2015 on the insignia for the war wounded has been ratified by decree n° 2016-1130 of 17 August 2016. It is now an official decoration of the French Republic. The photo below shows the model described in the decree.

    Thanks, Frank.

Possibly a case of bowing to the inevitable… eventually 🙂

I think the military simply got tired of waiting, you have to admit they were patient, 100 years!  Everything started moving when the Army High Command flat out published a directive to the troops to wear the medal (INSTRUCTION PROVISOIRE N° 1403/DEF/EMAT/CAB/ADM/REC relative à l’attribution de l’insigne des blessés de guerre au personnel de l’armée de terre du 14 avril 2015).  Unsure if it was a nudge or an outright dare but it got things moving.

Here’s a link to the OFFICIAL DECREE

Sounds like a sensible initiative on the Army High Command’s part. Thanks for the link, very useful.
