If anyone wants more detail on the 2011 Convention, please click on the Convention tab at the top of the page. That will take you to a series of pages on all aspects of the Convention. Included is the hotel information, registration form, Seminar topics and things to do in Jacksonville.

John is right as the exact seminars to be given in Jacksonville are posted together with the schedule.

As Chairman of the British & Commonwealth Seminars, I am always looking for new speakers for our seminars. So if your are interested in discussing this further, please contact me through the forum, via PM or email. Typically, I try to line up the next series of seminars one year in advance. So in Jacksonville, I will be looking to fill the British & Commonwealth program for the Dallas Convention.

If you are not sure what types of talks you might give, take a look at the "Past Seminars" listing under the "Past Convention" tab on the home page. All the seminar leaders are willing to coach and help those that might be a bit apprehensive about doing it. Those who start out reluctant take the plunge tell me that they really enjoyed the experience and made new friends in the process!

Hello, all: This is Tim Bartholow, co-chair of the 2011 Jacksonville Convention, along with Nathan Weiss. The full program is set, and should be posted here on the website soon. I see postings on the seminars here in the forum and elsewhere on the site, so let me mention the two guest speakers briefly. At breakfast, we will hear from Dr. Allen Crowell (MAJ, USA ret), former enlisted vocalist with and then Conductor of the United States Army Chorus in Washington, DC. As a musician, and a former military musician myself, I know this talk will give all of us a different perspective on military careers, not to mention on a career spent in proximity to the nation's capitol. At the banquet on Saturday, we will hear what promises to be a most entertaining talk from member Christopher B. Hill. His intentionally cryptic title will lead us through several tales of medals and medal collecting, rather than men and deeds. You'll hear about reuniting separated groups, finding or just missing the medal you've been searching for -- experiences we can all relate to!

I urge you to come to Jacksonville for the friendship, the collecting, the bourse, and the resort atmosphere. Convention rates at the Hyatt are available between Monday, August 8 and (probably) Wednesday, August 17, if I calculate correctly. Come early and stay late! If Nathan or I can do anything to help you enjoy the convention, don't hesitate to ask.

Tim: Are there any provisions for a shuttle or other transportation from the airport to the hotel? If I remember correctly, the last time we were there taxis were the only recourse. Regards, Dick Flory

Dick,

This is from Tim and I just posted this on the Convention page of the website.

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION IN JACKSONVILLE
Airport transportation is through GO Airport Shuttle, located at pole #4 downstairs,
outside baggage claim. The fare is $20 for the first passenger, and $8 for each
additional passenger to the same address (i.e. a group of four owes $11 each),
so try to ride in groups! Their number is (904) 353-8880.

After some serious thought, I have reached this decision. It pains me to say this but, I have decided to not attend the Convention this year. I will miss seeing old friends there and will have to display my exhibit at a later Convention. Right now their are some things that helped me reach this decision. To Everybody that attends, have a GREAT time.

With Regret,
 Doc
