I've got a couple, not sure if I want to get rid of. They have white powdery corrosion - any way of safely cleaning that off?

Sounds like 'zinc pest', and while I never tried this it is a very popular way of treating it.

Coat medal in petroleum jelly, (vaseline)
let sit for 24hrs
wash off with warm water dish detergent and a soft brush
